BSW Student Association Organizes Gift Giving Drive for Homeless Children

2016 BSW Assoc Gifts

Each year the BSW Student Association brings holiday cheer to local children and families in need through its "Gift Giving Tree" project.

The students set up make-shift trees, adorned with tags with recommended gifts for children, in HPA I and II. Members of the college are invited to select a tag, purchase the gift and give the gift to the student association for distribution.

"We identify an agency -- or an agency contacts us -- with children in foster care or a homeless shelter, or with families who are unable to provide for their children due to mitigating circumstances," said Robin Kohn, BSW program coordinator, associate instructor and faculty advisor to the student group.

"This year we collected for the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida," she said. The agency is based in Orlando.

The students recently gathered to wrap the gifts (photo), many of them toys, and delivered the gifts to the coalition on Monday. The agency will give them to homeless families to give to their children.

"The BSW Student Association thanks everyone who participated," Kohn said. "This wouldn't be successful without you."
