Interim Director’s Welcome
Welcome to the School of Social Work!
As Interim Director of the School of Social Work at the University of Central Florida, I would like to welcome you to our web site. This website provides information regarding our programs, our faculty members' expertise and research interests, our student's accomplishments, and other continuing education, community initiatives and involvement.
Social work remains a profession rich in tradition that clearly addresses the needs of those served from a “person-in-situation” perspective. Professional helping strategy employs techniques that foster education, advocacy, facilitation and intervention and maintain a strong commitment to empowering individuals, families, couples and small groups. The goal is to assist individuals directly while also improving conditions within our communities. Intervention and practice efforts, such as advocacy, involvement and promoting policy changes-- provide the cornerstone of our professional helping activities and interventions. The School of Social Work at the University of Central Florida has a rich history of contributing to the betterment of our community providing services that are culturally-sensitive which embrace the rich traditions of our local, regional, national and international community.
Our website outlines our program availability at the undergraduate, graduate and our PhD program in Public Affairs that has one of its five tracks in social work. Both our undergraduate BSW and graduate MSW programs are accredited by the Council of Social Work Education. Online and non-traditional course formats enhance educational access and our student field placements offer exciting opportunities that serve diverse populations across the Central Florida region. In addition, the teaching and research interests of our faculty and staff are outlined for you as well as contact information for our staff. Be sure to take a moment to read our School News, Continuing Education Calendar of Events and our alumni updates. Information related to school updates and the successes of our students and faculty members are highlighted regularly.
Lastly, stayed tuned as we continue to grow and change. Consider joining us in creating a strong clinical core for intervention as well as a powerhouse of social action and change in our community!
