Olga Molina, assistant professor of social work, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the international Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Groups. Her election was announced at the association's 2008 International Symposium, held June 19-22 in Cologne, Germany. At the conference, Molina presented a paper titled, "Dealing with Diversity in Divorce Groups." Click here for a photo.

Michael Bermes was recently named NASW Student Social Worker of the Year for Volusia/Flager Counties. The honor is given to an M.S.W./B.S.W. student who positively impacts practice and the community through social work. Bermes, an M.S.W. student at UCF Daytona Beach, is very active in the community, holding positions on the NASW-Volusia/Flager Unit's Steering Committee and the School of Social Work's Community Advisory Committee. He is also president of the M.S.W. Student Association at the Daytona Beach campus. |

Beth Engelman, an M.S.W. student at UCF Daytona Beach, was recently named Volunteer of the Year by the Stewart- Marchman Center, a community-based agency that encourages family involvement in the treatment and prevention of addictions and delinquency. Robert Wesley, public defender of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, has been named the "Elected Official of the Year" by the Florida Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. The award is given to recognize outstanding leadership and service on behalf of Florida's children and families. Wesley is a member of the school's Community Advisory Committee and a loyal and committed supporter. |

Ana Leon, associate professor of social work, has been appointed vice chair of the UCF Institutional Review Board by the Office of Research and Commercialization. The appointment became effective Jan. 7. Leon was appointed a full member of the university's IRB, as well as its vice chair, following her "exemplary" participation as an alternate to the board during the fall 2007 semester. |
