Spring Distinguished Lecture Series Focus on UCF Downtown Partnerships

Thursday, April 20, 2017

Dls1The UCF Downtown project is not only a study in urban planning, but in planning partnerships as well. At the recent Urban and Regional Planning Distinguished Lecture Series, which took place at the UCF Downtown Executive Development Center on April 6, lecturers spoke about the university's newest campus and its three-pronged partnership between UCF, the City of Orlando and Valencia College.

More than 100 people attended the event, which featured a panel of speakers including:

  • Kelly Moody, City of Orlando project manager
  • Brooke Bonnett, City of Orlando executive director of economic development
  • Thad Seymour, Jr., vice provost of UCF Downtown.

Planning topics discussed included the challenges and opportunities of planning through public-private partnerships, and best practices for managing community growth while leveraging opportunities for economic development. Neighborhood and community planning and preservation were also topics of interest.

The lecture was followed by an audience Q&A session moderated by School of Public Administration alumna Virginia Whittington.

The lecture series is supported by generous contributions from VHB MillerSellen, Metroplan Orlando, GAI Consultants, APA Orlando Metro Section and other members of the Central Florida planning community.
