Students Awarded Scholarships from State Organizations

Monday, July 03, 2017

Untitled Design (28)So far, it's been a lucrative summer for two public administration students.

Undergraduate student Timothy Hill was named the 2017 recipient of a $1,200 scholarship from the Florida State Association of Supervisors of Elections at the organization's annual conference.

The Joel Oldmixon Scholarship, named after the former Supervisor of Elections for Escambia County, is one of several scholarships that FSASE awards annually to students in Florida. Orange County Supervisor of Elections nominated Hill for the scholarship based on his involvement in UCF and the community.

Hill currently serves as an office assistant for the Student Academic Resource Center at UCF as well as a research assistant for SPA. He is also pursuing a summer internship with the Orange County Fire and Rescue Administration.

Hill is also active with the school's student organizations. He was recently appointed president of the International City and County Management Association student chapter and vice president of the Organization for Public Administration.

"Timothy has aspirations of one day becoming a city manager, and from all that I have seen, he had the determination and smarts to become that and more," Cowles said in a release.

Krizia Maldonado, also an undergraduate, received the Florida Executive Women Scholarship, worth $3,000, from Florida Executive Women Inc.

Each year, FEW awards four $3,000 scholarships one student at four local colleges and universities: UCF, Seminole State College of Florida, Valencia College and the Hamilton Holt School at Rollins College. To strengthen the competition, the recipient must be a woman of junior or senior standing who resides in Orange, Seminole, Brevard, Lake, Volusia or Osceola counties.
