Public Administration Internship Program
The School of Public Administration Internship Program provides
students with an opportunity to engage in active experiential
learning. Internships allow students to apply knowledge, skills,
theory, and concepts acquired in the classroom in public agencies
and nonprofit organizations.
Requirements for Academic Credit
Internships are required for undergraduate students in the
School of Public Administration. Prior to graduation, all
undergraduate students must complete at least one 180-hour
internship for three credit hours.
PAD 4949: is a required course for public
administration majors. Eligible undergraduate students may opt to
intern for 180 hours for three credit hours or to intern for
375 hours for six credit hours. Students seeking nine credit hours
will need approval from the internship coordinator. Approval will
only be given to students who will be either traveling
out-of-state or participating in a special immersion internship
(e.g., UCF Legislative Scholars Internship).PAD 4941
and PAD 4948 have been officially changed to PAD 4949 (Effective
PAD 6946: is a graduate level general
elective. Students may take this for up to three credit hours.
Must be a junior or senior
Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA
Have successfully complete 12 credit hours of public
administration coursework, including Introduction to Public
Administration (PAD 3003)
All undergraduate students in the nonprofit management minor who
are completing the National Certification from the the Nonprofit
Leadership Alliance Program must complete a 300-hour internship
while enrolled in PAD 4949.
Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
Have successfully completed six credit hours of graduate level
public administration coursework
Eligible graduate students may receive a maximum of three credit
hours for one semester of internship.

coordinator if they do not meet the listed
Placement and Registration
It is the student's responsibility to find an internship in
an area that fits their interests. Students may work with the
internship coordinator to locate an appropriate position or conduct
a search on their own.
Students who have arranged internships by their own efforts must
seek approval from the
internship coordinator prior to
beginning the internship. Students who do not receive approval run
the risk of not receiving academic credit for their internship.
To register for academic credit in the School of Public
Administration Internship Program, students will need to complete
the online internship orientation. Students should complete the
orientation in the semester prior to the semester they wish
to begin the internship.
*Undergraduate students must apply with the Office
of Experiential Learning, once completed they will be
enrolled automatically in the on-line internship orientation
course. Graduate students will need to request enrollment in the
orientation from the internship coordinator.
Students should meet with an academic advisor prior to enrolling
in an internship to ensure the course is a part of their
individualized plan of study.
