Congratulations to Barbara Howell, research coordinator for the college and
adjunct instructor for the School of Public Administration, on her receipt of a Service-Learning Faculty Recognition Award from the UCF Office of Experiential
Learning! Howell received the award on Feb. 14, 2012, to honor her
"distinguished service and outstanding commitment to service-learning at
UCF." Through her course, "Introduction to Grantwriting" (PAD 5850), she teaches
students the art and science of grantwriting while working on significant
service-learning projects for community nonprofit, education or government

, who received a Master of Nonprofit Management (M.N.M.) at UCF in 2009, brings a little UCF cheer to the sand dunes of Swakopmund, Africa. She is serving in the Peace Corps in Namibia and was recently visited by her mother, Elaine Estes Newell, and friend Linzy Wilson, who helped complete the iconic photo.

The department held its Annual Retreat on Aug. 26, 2011, with faculty and staff members, students and advisory board members in attendance. Assistant Professor Thomas Bryer facilitated the retreat, and he used an approach that allowed members to select discussion topics as well as move freely among discussion groups. Among the topics discussed were alumni relations, curriculum, technology, benchmarking and expectations of the department if it became a school. ,

The Department of State is pleased to announce the official unveiling of the Office of the Historian’s new website: www.history.state.gov ( http://www.history.state.gov/ ).
The new website boasts greater accessibility and searching within the Foreign Relations of the United States documentary series. It currently offers both textual and facsimile copies of Foreign Relations volumes from the Kennedy Administration through the Nixon-Ford administration. The Office plans to continue to digitize older volumes and eventually house all of the Foreign Relations volumes on its website. The website also contains updated sections on the history of the Department of State, biographies of notable diplomats, and an in-depth time line of United States diplomatic milestones. The Office’s educational curriculum guides are also d ownloadable from the website. The Office hopes that through its enhanced presentation and organization, the new website will become the preeminent online resource for U.S. diplomatic history.

Public administration graduate student Adam S. Reichbach received this year's prestigious B. Harold Farmer Scholarship from the Florida City County Manager's Association. The $2,500 scholarship recognizes his strong commitment to pursing a career in local government management. "Adam is an exceptionally hard working, dedicated and well-deserving young man," said Ronnie Korosec, interim dean for graduate studies and technology and a former professor of Reichbach's.
