Associate Professor Linda Rosa-Lugo and Assistant Professor Jennifer Kent-Walsh of Communication Sciences and Disorders received the 2008 Editor's Award from Communication Disorders Quarterly for their November 2008 article, "Effects of Parent Instruction on Communication Turns of Latino Children Using Augmentative and Alternative Communication During Reading."
Pamala Griset, associate professor of criminal justice, is the author of the first chapter in a final report published Jan. 30 by the New York State Commission on Sentencing Reform. Her
chapter focuses on the history of sentencing in New York. Click here to learn more.
Health services administration graduate student Keila Rooney has been awarded the 2009-2010 Administrative Fellowship with Health First, the largest health-care provider in Brevard County. Her selection breaks a long-time tradition of awarding the fellowship to UF graduates. Some 95 percent of fellows who complete the one-year, paid term go on to pursue executive-level careers in the Health First system.
Social work major Andrea Predl has been selected the State Student Social Worker of the Year by the Florida Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. In addition, Judge Jose Rodriguez (Ninth Judicial Circuit), a member of the college's Dean's Advisory Council, has been selected the State Elected Official of the Year by FL-NASW.
They will be formally honored on June 6 at FL-NASW's annual conference in Orlando.
Four American Humanics students — were awarded $4,500 NextGen Scholarships at the American Humanics Management/Leadership Institute in Indianapolis. The NextGen Program is designed to help students
with demonstrated leadership potential complete their American Humanics certificate requirements.
Congratulations to the college's 2008 Professional Achievement Award winner, Judith Thames (B.A., social welfare/psychology, '73), and Rising Star Award winner, Spencer Hawkins (B.S., public administration, '02). At the recent National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration conference, Mary Ann Feldheim, chair of the Department of Public Administration, was elected president-elect of the nonprofit section of NASPAA and K. Tom Liou, professor of public administration, was elected a member of the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration.
College Dean Michael Frumkin is a newly elected member of Heart of Florida United Way's Board of Directors. He will serve a three-year term.
UCF took home 39 awards — more than any other participating college or university — during competitions among criminal justice students at the American Criminal Justice Association Conference, held Oct. 16-19, in Tallahassee, Fla. Click here to learn more.
Kuotsai "Tom" Liou, professor of public administration, received the prestigious Senator Boorsma Award for Excellence in International Affairs and Partnerships at the recent Southeastern Conference for Public Administration in Orlando. The award recognizes his outstanding efforts in the international exchange of knowledge and best practices in public administration.

Ana Leon, associate professor of social work, is one of several "outstanding Hispanic social workers" featured on the National Association of Social Workers' Web site during Hispanic Heritage Month, from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Click here to read the feature.
Four faculty members, two students, three alumni and a former postdoctoral fellow from the college are authors of articles published in a third special issue of the International Journal of Public Policy that focuses on Public Affairs Informatics Research. Ronnie Korosec, associate professor of public administration, has been selected to serve as the first Dean's Faculty Fellow, a yearlong professional development position. As a fellow, Korosec will participate in a variety of projects throughout the college in 2008-2009.

Theresa Daly, director of the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), has secured nearly $20,000 in grant funding from Autism Speaks to implement the "Real Experience in Autism Classrooms Helps" (REACH) program. In 2008-2009, the program will place 50 to 100 UCF undergraduates in local school districts to work with autism teachers. The students will gain valuable real-world experience and enhance the education of children with autism.
