International Activities & Partnerships
The College of Health and Public Affairs is engaged in the global community through a wide variety of activities, including study abroad, partnerships and exchange programs. In addition, the college actively supports the development of an international emphasis in its curricula and research.
The college promotes and coordnates international activities though the “COHPA International Affairs Committee,” composed of representatives from each academic department and unit.

Zhang Highlighted As International Gerontology Visiting Scholar

Ning "Jackie" Zhang, associate professor of public affairs, describes his
experience as the first visiting scholar sponsored by the The Gerontological
Society of America in the March 2012 issue of the society's newsletter,
Gerontology News. As a GSA visiting scholar, Zhang worked in China
last fall to advance the society's China Initiative.

COHPA Study Abroad Programs: Students Experiences and Perspectives
Come and learn/exchange the experience of students who have participated in several study abroad courses in COHPA (Russia, Costa Rica, London, Korea) and learn about upcoming opportunities (Puerto Rico, Brazil). To continue enhancing our interdisciplinary activities, students and faculty from COHPA and other colleges are welcome!

Challenges of Development and Human Motivations
This workshop will be presented by Dr. David Gurney and will stimulate conversation with the students as “future leaders” about conditions of international students in their home countries. The main goal is to prepare and assist these future leaders to develop perspectives on such issues and expand a globalized approach to this issues. The workshop will be open both to students and interested faculty.
Criminal Justice Hosts Singapore Police

The Criminal Justice Department welcomed delegates from the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Police Volunteer Special Constabulary (Reserves) on Tuesday, October 11, for a colloquium about comparative policing systems between Singapore and the United States.

Zhang Named First Visiting Scholar by Gerontological Society

The Gerontological Society of America has named Ning "Jackie" Zhang, associate professor of public affairs, as the first participant in its Visiting Scholar Program. During the 2011-12 academic year, he will work to further the society's China Initiative, which promotes the development of strong linkages and collaborations between gerontologists in the United States and China. Liou Invited to Speak in Taiwan

Tom Liou, professor of public administration and president-elect of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), was invited to attend the 2011 International Conference of Taiwan Association for Schools of Public Administration and Affairs at the Taipei Municipal University of Education in Taipei. He gave the opening remarks to convene the conference, chaired a panel on publications in public administration journals and participated as a discussant in a panel on public administration education. On May 27, he gave a presentation, “Democracy and Public Service Ethics,” at the National Academy of Civil Service. In addition, Liou was invited to attend an International Round Table Forum of Comparative and Development Administration on June 1 at Shih Hsin University in Taipei. At this forum, he gave a keynote speech on “Retrospective and Prospective Development in Administration” and then chaired a panel on “Theory of Comparative and Development Administration.” The highlight of Liou’s visit to Taiwan was when he met the president of the Republic of China, Ma Ying-jeou. Liou was honored as the first Asian to be elected president of ASPA.

Spring Break Service in Jamaica

Physical therapy Instructor Jennifer Tucker will lead nine physical therapy students and two others on a trip to Kingston, Jamaica. UCF students have traveled to Jamaica to help orphans for the past six years, and they are part of an ongoing partnership with the Florida Hospital Outreach program SHARES International.

UCF Professor Leads Effort to Promote Human Rights in Russia

Associate Professor K. Michael Reynolds recently secured a $645,000 grant from the U.S. Department of State to establish centers in southern Russia that also will coordinate human rights efforts and promote police reform.
