Chair's Welcome

5th Welcome to the Department of Health Professions at the University of Central Florida.

Our department currently offers three academic majors and one minor: a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, and a Health Sciences Minor.

The Athletic Training Program is a restricted-access program with a competitive admissions process. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students who graduate and successfully pass the Board of Certification (BOC ©) examination will hold the credential of ATC and be eligible to practice as an athletic trainer.

The Health Sciences Program is open-access and offers both face-to-face and online courses that prepare students for graduate schools in a wide variety of medical fields. The program is the second most popular major at UCF.

The Physical Therapy Program is a professional doctoral program with a competitive admissions process. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Students who graduate and successfully pass the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) will be eligible to practice as a physical therapist.

The Health Sciences Minor is popular with students who want to increase their knowledge base in the areas of health care, health promotion and disease prevention.

I invite you to explore our website and learn about some of the rewarding career opportunities available in health care.

It was great to see Jennifer [Plant] honored with the statewide Athletic Trainer of the Year Award. She is an exceptional teacher, a professional leader and an amazing colleague.
— Kristen Schellhase,  Interim Chair, Athletic Training Director
The event [for children with disabilities] was a huge success. We had about 30 children, and the students did a phenomenal job. I'm already receiving inquiries about next year's event.
