Department Spreads Love to Local Nonprofit for Valentine’s Day

Tuesday, March 07, 2017

Untitled Design (20)Faculty and staff members from the Department of Health Management and Informatics recently collaborated on a community service project that spread a lot of love to a local nonprofit organization.

In honor of Valentine's Day, faculty and staff decorated gift bags for women and gift boxes for children that were filled with goodies such as hair care products, lotion, chocolate, coloring books and crayons, candy and Valentine's Day cards. The bags and boxes were shared with residents of SafeHouse for Seminole County, which provides services and shelter to victims of domestic abuse.

Staff members from the department personally delivered the donations to SafeHouse of Seminole, where they were disseminated at the annual Valentine's Day banquet. Sherri Dixon, HMI's coordinator of administrative services and the coordinator of the community service project, said that the women were very appreciative of the gifts.

This is the second project benefiting SafeHouse of Seminole in which the department has participated. At Christmastime, the department hosted a donation drive that was also well received. The department plans to continue this new tradition by decorating and donating Easter baskets.
