Congratulations to health services administration major Robyn Lloyd, who received third place for her essay, "Retail Clinics: The New Consumerism," in the
annual essay competition sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives. Lloyd is the first undergraduate student from UCF to win an award in this contest. She wrote the essay under the supervision of Associate Professor Donna Malvey. |

Congratulations to health services administration graduate student Sara Afonso, who received the first awarding of the Health Services Administration Alumni Chapter Scholarship. Afonso can use the $500 scholarship toward tuition, textbooks, fees and other education expenses in the spring 2010 semester. She was selected to receive the scholarship based on her academic excellence. |

Health information management major Janine Vance has been selected the college's 2009 Founders' Day student, an honor bestowed to its most outstanding student of the year. (Click here to learn more.) At UCF, she has achieved an overall GPA of 3.993 and a 4.0 in her major. She has also volunteered many hours of service to local community organizations. Vance is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Florida HIM Association as well.

Health services administration graduate student Megan McLendon has been selected to receive a post-graduate fellowship at the Linthicum, Md.-based VA VISN 5 Capitol Healthcare Network — the network office for four area VA hospitals in Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Virginia and West Virginia. She will complete her M.S. this August and begin the position in September. |

| 2-5-09Health services administration graduate studenthas been awarded the 2009-2010 Administrative Fellowship with Health First, the largest health care provider in Brevard County.
Her selection breaks a long-time tradition of awarding the fellowship to UF graduates, said Chris Sorensen, vice president of corporate risk management and chief compliance officer for Health First. During the one-year, paid fellowship, Rooney will be exposed to Health First's many components and be assigned executive projects by various departments. Some 95 percent of fellows who complete the term go on to pursue executive-level careers in the Health First system. |

Health services administration graduate student Keila Rooney's essay, "Consumer-Driven Healthcare Marketing: Using the Web to Get Up Close and Personal," was selected for submission to the 2009 American College of Healthcare Executives Graduate Student Essay Contest. "Typically, 50 to 60 essays are submitted by accredited master's degree programs nationally, and a committee of academicians and health care executives choose the top three entries, which are awarded prizes during the annual ACHE meeting in March," said Professor Myron Fottler, executive director of UCF's HSA programs. |

Zak Named Most Outstanding HMI Student in State
Amanda Zak (right) (B.S., Health Information Management, '07) was selected the most outstanding HIM student in the state for 2007 by the Florida Health Information Management Association. The award was presented at the association's annual meeting, held in Orlando, in June. Zak begins the Master of Science in Health Services Administration program at UCF this fall. She hopes to begin her professional career working for a government hospital.
