Mission
The purpose of the Master of Science in Health Sciences — Health Service Administration Track is to prepare students to function in a wide variety of managerial and supervisory health-care environments, ranging from rural to metropolitan, integrated delivery systems to free-standing clinical organizations, and operational activities to educational pursuits. Each faculty member models the attributes of an administrative scholar with respect to practice, education, research, continuing education, service and leadership. They strive to assist in the development of informed and responsive leaders who possess the capacity for critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Overview
The health services administration graduate program is one of approximately 70 programs in the world that are fully accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), formerly known as the Accrediting Commission on Education for Health Services Administration (ACEHSA).
The program appeals to a variety of students, including recent college graduates and professionals in health care who are interested in broadening their knowledge of business aspects of the field and advancing their careers. Still other students enter the program as a first step towards earning a doctorate in public affairs or a related field.
The curriculum provides a course of study that includes
• analysis of issues and trends in health care
• study of the structure and leadership of health-care organizations
• strategic planning, financial management and organizational strategies for change
• research methods and statistics
• information systems for solving problems in the health-care industry
Course work emphasizes oral communications, written communications, working in teams and consultation with local health-care organizations. Courses are offered in the traditional classroom setting as well as online. Students are required to take at least 7 courses in the face-to-face format. All students must also complete an internship.
Upon admission into the program, students will meet with an academic advisor to develop a plan of study, which they will follow during their academic career.

Faculty
The program's faculty members remain active in their respective discipline by conducting original research — which they present at national meetings and publish in books and major health-care journals — as well as through their leadership roles in many professional organizations. Student assistants are involved in these activities and sometimes have the opportunity to serve as co-authors on these papers.
