About the Center

The Center for Public and Nonprofit Management (CPNM) represents the formalization and expansion of services and research already being conducted through various faculty members within the School of Public Administration.

Through our Capacity Building Institute (CBI), extensive community service has been provided. The Public Service and Leadership Development Program (PSLDP) has assisted public service leaders with the training and education they need to improve their performance.

Both the CBI and the PSLDP have contributed to the generation of relevant research, and the extensive research conducted in the areas of Emergency and Crises Management and Civil Society and Public Participation has facilitated extensive journal publications.

The school has been involved in presenting research to the institutional community, the greater Central Florida community, as well as to faculty, students, and the community through the establishment of regularly hosted research colloquiums. The school also founded two annual conferences and has presented at other conferences as well.

The CBI has been involved in 11 major projects since 2003, employing 30 graduate students and serving over 159 nonprofit agencies in the Central Florida region. Over $1,000,000 in grant dollars have been awarded to the CBI to provide technical assistance to nonprofits, through the use of faculty and student teams, in the form of strategic plans, annual reports and a host of other critical nonprofit management components.

The school faculty and the respective Advisory Boards bring expertise on every element of capacity building including strategic planning and management, volunteer management, resource development, program evaluation and training.

Since the CPNM was formally established in 2008, the center has been awarded nearly $4 million dollars in grant funding.
