National Center Hosts Group from Central Florida

Thursday, April 30, 2015

The National Center for Community Schools in New York City highlighted a recent visit by a central Florida contingency in its news publication, Partnership Press (April 2015 issue).

The group included architects and urban designers who will be designing a new pre-school−grade 8 community school in the Parramore area of Orlando for Orange County Public Schools.

The intensive two-day study visit was co-designed and co-coordinated by Nancy Ellis, director of UCF's Center for Community Partnerships, and Hersilia Méndez, director of communication and external affairs for the National Center for Community Schools.

"The visit was extremely insightful," said participant Carlos Barrios, a principal and architect with Baker Barrios in Orlando. "It helped us form a better understanding of what makes a community school a success for students, parents and other stakeholders."
