"The Photograph as Language" Exhibit
April 30 to May 11
Rollins College,
Cornell Campus Center, Darden Lounge;
Winter Park, FL
This exhibit features photographs from a collaborative workshop
involving University of Central Florida and Rollins College students and stroke survivors.
Rollins' majors in photography and psychology worked with seven
stroke survivors attending the UCF Communication Disorders Clinic.
Dawn Roe, assistant professor of art at Rollins, instructed the stroke
survivors to take photographs as a form of self-expression.
UCF communication sciences and disorder' master's degree
students worked alongside the Rollins' students, demonstrating
communication strategies so the stroke survivors could communicate
their intent. Clinical Instructors Janet Whiteside and Jane Hostetler
directed the project at UCF.
The stroke survivors will attend the April 30 open house and share
their thoughts about their photographs. Some of the stroke
survivors use augmentative and alternative communication devices
to communicate.
