Hearing Loss

What is hearing loss?
Definition- "A reduction in hearing sensitivity" (Stach, 2003).

Individuals may experience hearing loss as a result of noise exposure, ear blockage, such as impacted wax and chronic ear infections and may experience associated symptoms such as tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and/or hyperacusis (increased sensitivity to loud sounds).

 Do you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of hearing loss?

• Difficulty understanding speech in quiet or noise
• Difficulty hearing on the phone and understanding speech
• Difficulty hearing the television and understanding speech
• Ringing in the ears
• Aural fullness/pressure in the ears
• Family and friends expressing concerns about your ability to hear and understand speech

How can UCF Audiology help?

If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, UCF Audiology/Hearing Services can help by providing the services listed below. In addition, the UCF Listening Center offers Aural Rehabilitation Services for adults with hearing loss as well as for families with children who have hearing loss.

Bilingual consultations (English-Spanish) are available.

HEARING SERVICES AVAILABLE AT RESEARCH PARK

• Comprehensive Diagnostic Hearing Evaluations for all ages
• Cochlear Implant evaluations, activations, mapping and troubleshooting. Currently providing audiology Cochlear Implant services for all ages using Advanced Bionics, Cochlear Americas and Med-EL technologies. 
• Hearing aid consultations
•Hearing aid booth testing
•Hearing conservation evaluations
• Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) evaluations and treatment options
• Central auditory processing evaluations (Ages 7 and up)
• Custom earmolds for hearing protection, hearing conservation and musicians
• Sound field testing

HEARING AIDS/COHLEAR IMPLANTS AND RELATED SERVICES AT RESEARCH PARK

• A large selection of state-of-the art digital hearing aid technology
• A large selection of styles and technology available from multiple manufacturer's to include a one, two or three year warranty
• Assistive listening devices: amplified telephones, alerting devices, FM systems, and wireless/Bluetooth options for telephone, television, electronic devices and mini microphones
• Customized fitting of hearing aids
• Adjustments and re-programming of hearing aids
• Annual hearing aid testing
• Hearing aid verification
• Minor repairs completed on-site
• Hearing aids and cochlear implant batteries are available for purchase
