ORLANDO, Oct. 22, 2009 — Students, faculty and staff celebrated the diversity of cultures this week during an "Around the World Continental Sampler" event that drew more than 130 people to the HPA I atrium.
The Oct. 21 "Diversity Week" celebration featured tables with food and artifacts from each of the world's continents.
The regional food and displays were prepared by departments and student organizations in the College of Health and Public Affairs, College of Nursing and Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences.
With plates in hand, the guests
took a culinary trip around the world, sampling foods such as Bolivian humintas at the "South America table" and Japanese sushi at the "Asia table." Along the way, they viewed maps, photos, books and authentic clothing, tapestries and other materials from each continent.
"We had a great time with great food," said Associate Dean Mel Rogers, who chairs COHPA's diversity committee. He thanked all who helped put on the event and said he anticipates holding a similar celebration next year.
